Nuevo León, Mexico – January 26, 2023 – American Woodmark Corporation (NASDAQ: AWMD), a leading manufacturer of wood cabinets for kitchens and bathrooms, announced the opening of its first manufacturing plant in the state of Nuevo León, Mexico. The $45 million investment underscores the company’s commitment to expanding its manufacturing footprint and supporting economic growth in the region.
The new facility, located in Ciénega de Flores, represents a significant economic boost to the local community, creating approximately 400 new jobs and providing opportunities for professional development. This expansion further strengthens American Woodmark’s position as one of the top three cabinet manufacturers in the United States, supported by a workforce of more than 10,000 employees across 18 factories in North America.
American Woodmark produces approximately 10 million cabinets and 648,000 kitchens annually worldwide, maintaining a strong presence in the global cabinetry industry. The company announced its decision to invest in Nuevo León in January 2023, highlighting the region’s importance to its long-term growth strategy.
Scott Culbreth, President and CEO of American Woodmark, expressed enthusiasm about the new facility.
“We conducted an exhaustive analysis to determine the location of our new manufacturing plant, and we are convinced and very excited to have selected this particular location in the municipality of Ciénega de Flores in the state of Nuevo León. Reaching this day would not have been possible without the hard work, advice, and dedication of our partners PRODENSA and CPA, as well as our strategic team at American Woodmark. We are working as a team to build this year a 275,000 square foot building to increase our capacity in the kitchen and bath lines.”
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on January 26, 2023, and was attended by state and local officials, including Nuevo León Governor Samuel García, Ciénega de Flores Mayor Miguel Ángel Quiroga, State Secretary of Economy Iván Rivas, and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy Emmanuel Loo. Industry leaders, developers, service providers, and community members also attended the event.
The facility spans approximately 275,904 square feet and was scheduled for completion in November 2023. This strategic expansion is expected to enhance American Woodmark’s manufacturing capacity and support continued growth across North America and Latin America.
